Caroline Shevelan

The relationship between therapist and client has been shown to be the effective agent of change regardless of the model a therapist chooses. Therefore choosing the right person for you is an important part of the process.

The psychotherapy I offer is psychodynamic and integrative. Meaning that from the central focus of our relationship, a broad range of complementary approaches can be woven together to suit each person and situation, usually prioritizing the presence of the past in our current experience.

Often it is useful to have a core model of working which informs and gives structure to all the other ways we can understand ourselves and for me that is usually, but not always, transactional analysis (TA).

Qualifications, location, cost or expertise in particular areas, can tip the balance in favour of one therapist over another. I would add to that list a feeling of ‘good fit’, a kind of gut instinct, that we might get along OK together. Therefore, I would encourage anyone who is looking to start working with me to meet me and see if we are just that – a good fit.

UKCP profile

Caroline Shevelan

I am based in the LA19 postcode and work with clients both online and in person. I am a full clinical member of the UKCP, a registered member of the BACP, and a member of the Northern Guild of Psychotherapy (NGP) where I also completed my five years of training. More information about this can be found by following the navigation buttons. The course included supervised clinical practice from the start and weekly personal therapy.

Before completing my training I was a full-time home educator of my three now grown up children which has given me a breadth of life experience which I bring to my practice. I also have a love of the outdoors, reading, creativity and music.

I work with a wide variety of people and presenting needs and have a growing interest in neurodiversity, particularly the intersection of neurodiversity and intergenerational trauma. Attendance at a recent series of seminars by Dr Tanya Banfield has enhanced my practice in this area.
